- Enhanced camera auto edge detection — significantly improved real-time edge detection stability and accuracy:
- Added document-aware scoring (corner termination, containment refinement, paper prior) to reject background noise like desks and keyboards;
- Introduced shape and surface plausibility filters to eliminate false positives on elongated strips and partial-page quads;
- Added temporal hysteresis, deadband smoothing, and stationary-scene gating to prevent flickering and outline teleporting on static scenes;
- Lowered minimum document detection size from 7% to 5% for better long-distance scanning.
- Auto-crop reliability — when still-capture detection finds no document, the page keeps the full frame instead of an arbitrary 3% inset crop that shaved content off frame-filling pages.
- Dark documents — raised the paper prior's floor so dark covers and cards stay detectable in cluttered scenes; verified detection across tall, near-full-frame, rotated, dark-on-bright and low-contrast documents.
- Distance scanning — quads with a split bright/dark interior (the fingerprint of the document merged with the desk around it) are now penalized, so a small document seen from higher up wins over the larger desk region that used to swallow the outline. Homogeneous interiors — all bright or all dark — are unaffected.
- Weak-edge and far-document recovery — a rescue Canny pass with a fixed low threshold runs when the adaptive passes find nothing (textured desks inflate the adaptive thresholds past faint document edges); the contour length floor was lowered so a small far document's perimeter still qualifies; still-capture auto-crop picks its candidate on a 416px working image instead of 288px before the 1024px refinement.
- Text evidence — thin dark strokes on a bright candidate interior (handwriting, print) now add a scoring bonus: a written page outranks desk clutter that merely has edges and brightness. Blank documents are not penalized.
