theme_inspector 2.1.0
theme_inspector: ^2.1.0 copied to clipboard
Interactive Flutter theme inspector for visualizing and debugging Material and Cupertino widgets, color schemes, and text styles.
2.1.0 #
A redesigned inspector that shows not only what the theme holds but where it is used.
- Where used. Selecting a colour or text style shows the built-in widgets that use it by
default, drawn live with your theme, followed by the widget properties that read it, e.g.
FilledButtonbackgroundColor: primary. The mapping follows the Material 3 defaults ofmaterial_ui1.2.0. On wide screens it is a side panel; on phones it opens as a bottom sheet. - Responsive navigation. A navigation rail from 600 dp, and a bottom navigation bar on phones. Phones with more than five tabs keep the scrollable icon tab bar.
- Color Scheme tab. Each role is one tile paired with its on-colour, showing both hex values, their WCAG contrast ratio and grade (AAA, AA, AA large or Low), and how many preview widgets read it. Tiles flow into a grid on wide screens. Added the tertiary and container roles. Long colour names now wrap instead of truncating.
- Text Theme tab. Styles are grouped by role (Display, Headline, Title, Body, Label), with the app's own styles under Custom, and show their weight beside their size.
- Added
InspectorTab.shortTitle, the label shown in the rail and bottom bar; the built-in tabs use "Colors" and "Text". - Added
ColorInfo.textColorName, which labels the text colour on a colour's tile. - The Cupertino tab's colours use the new colour tile.

Migrates to Flutter's decoupled design libraries. Material and Cupertino inside the
Flutter SDK were frozen in 3.44 and are being replaced by the standalone material_ui
and cupertino_ui packages, which are deprecated-in-place in the SDK from the November
2026 stable release.
- Breaking: The inspector now reads the theme from
package:material_uiandpackage:cupertino_uiinstead ofpackage:flutter/material.dartandpackage:flutter/cupertino.dart. Your app must use these packages too. Migrate withdart fix --apply --code=migrate_design_widgets, or stay ontheme_inspector: ^1.1.0. - Breaking: Raised the minimum SDK to Dart 3.12 / Flutter 3.44, as required by
material_ui. - Opening the inspector from an app that has not migrated now shows an explanatory screen
naming the migration command, instead of throwing a confusing
"No MaterialLocalizations found" error from deep inside
AppBar. The screen renders without aScaffoldorMaterialancestor, so it supplies its ownDefaultTextStylerather than inheriting Flutter's debug one, and is covered by a golden test. - Cupertino tab: added a Menus section using
CupertinoMenuAnchor,CupertinoMenuItemandCupertinoMenuDivider, which the Flutter 3.44 floor makes available. - Fixed tab labels being clipped between 600 dp and roughly 780 dp. The compact tab bar
now switches on available width per tab (150 dp each) rather than on total width,
so adding tabs via
customTabsno longer squeezes the labels. The threshold is unchanged at 600 dp for the four built-in tabs. - Fixed unselected tabs having no accessible name in the compact layout. Their labels are drawn at zero opacity, which removed them from the semantics tree, so screen readers announced them as unlabelled.
- Fixed text style names being truncated on narrow screens. The size is no longer rendered
in the style it describes --
57pxwas drawn at 57 px, taking the width the specimen needed -- and a specimen too wide for its row now takes the full width with its size beneath it, decided by measuring the text rather than by a fixed breakpoint. - Fixed colour names being truncated on narrow phones. The hex chip and copy button take a fixed width, leaving too little for the name at around 320 dp; a colour row now stacks its value beneath its name when the card is narrower than 300 dp.
1.1.0 #
- Breaking: Raised the minimum SDK to Dart 3.11 / Flutter 3.41. This is required
by the migration off the deprecated
showCupertinoSheet(builder:)parameter. - Migrated
showCupertinoSheetfrom the deprecatedbuilderparameter toscrollableBuilder. - Material tab: added Progress Indicators, Menus (
MenuAnchor,DropdownMenu,PopupMenuButton), Dialogs & Notifications (AlertDialog,SnackBar) and Badges & Tooltips sections. - Cupertino tab: added Activity Indicators (including
CupertinoLinearActivityIndicator), Dialogs, Pickers and Context Menu sections. - Regenerated the screenshots on Flutter 3.44. Flutter 3.41 updated
material_color_utilitiesto 0.13.0, which changes the colors generated byColorScheme.fromSeed, so the previous screenshots no longer matched what the inspector renders. - Documented the bundled agent skill in the README.
- Replaced the placeholder library-level documentation.
- Removed the unused
testdev dependency. - Excluded the demo GIF and tests from the published archive, reducing the download from 5.6 MB to under 1 MB.
- Added a CI workflow running format, analyze, test and publish validation.
- Fixed a test that had been failing since 1.0.2.
1.0.4 #
- Improve accessibility: All tab touch targets on mobile screens now meet the 48×48 dp minimum size requirement.
- Added agent skill for AI-assisted theme inspection.
1.0.3 #
- Fix: Missing type annotation.
- Upgraded dependencies.
- Update README.
1.0.2 #
- Enhanced tab bar design for improved navigation.
- Migrated from the old Radio API to the new RadioGroup widget.
